Shift Kit? yes or no.....

I have recently purchased a rebuild kit for my th400 transmission. I was wondering if any of you have installed the B&M shift kit in your mid 70's transmissions. If so would you recommend it, and why.

YES YES YES! The factory setup is way to soft for a vehicle of that weight. it actually burns the trans out prematurely. ( if you really drive it ) The stage 1 shift kit is perfect. Might feel a little hard at first. but will mello out within couple thousand miles.

agreed. The shift kits make for cleaner, more firm shifts (actually preserves the transmission, as smoother shifts = slipping = heat = death).
