  • Clearance issues with Alum. Rad. / Electric Fan

    Greetings,

A new install of the aluminium rad with the electric fan (79 factory J10 set-up, 360). The clearance between the end of the water pump shaft to the electric fan is not more than 1/4".

My question, is this the typical clearance?

    Thank you,
    Ai

No, that isn't typical. Did you tighten down the bolts that hold the fan to the shroud all the way?

      Greetings,

The gap between the fan to the shroud is not more than 1/16". I do not believe the fan should be mated against the shroud, or there would be no need for the rubber feet under the mounting points of the fan.

One other point I wish to make. The aluminium rad. itself is not true, when laid on a flat surface, one corner is 3/8" off the flat, it has a teader todder effect. But this is still not enough to cause the clearance issues.

      Thank you,
      Ai

I installed one in my 88 GW last week and have at least 1 inch of clearance.
You do need to compress the rubber feet on the fan.
