  • 1965 J 200

Hi there. New to this forum and also just bought a 1965 j 200. It is new to me. It has the I-6 tornado engine and a 3 on the tree. My daughter is 14 and wants this for her ride. (I have 2 wranglers 86 and 90). It starts..and drives and is complete for only $800.00 and 2 miles from my home.

My question is...can I convert this from a 3 speed to an automatic and drop in an automatic column from a wagoneer of some year? Since she does not drive stick..yet..(maybe never..her mom did not learn) can it be converted?
Auto shift maybe put on the floor vs. on the column? What swaps would I need besides tranny and t-case and column? Any help is appreciated.

I believe you can swap them over, as the bellhousing bolts should all be in the same location. Here is the auto that came with the 230:

For the column, yes, you can get an auto column from the same year range and it will bolt in.
