  • bushing in crank amc 360/th400

    Hello!
Is there or should it be a bushing in the crank when you have an amc 360 and th400 or is it some sort of self centering between converter and crank?

The AMC 304/360/390/401's all have a crank bushing in the end of the crank when used with a TH400 trans. The bushing is removed if you put in a TF727. The reason for this is the AMC cars all used TF727's, Jeep's used the TH400 until 1980 when they switched to the TF727. So the crank was milled for the larger torque converter input of the TF727. The same goes for the 232/258 i6's as well.

You can still get them from most engine rebuilders too.

Any other place to find that (part numbers would be nice too)?? I´m trying to locate that from my normal suplyers (Crown/Omix-Ada/BJ´s), but can´t find it from their catalogues!!!

Crown should have it if anybody in europe does. It can also go by a few names (sometimes called a pilot bearing, pilot bushing, adapter bushing/bearing, etc). I don't have a jeep parts book for the 70's, so I can't help with the jeep part number.

Thank´s Christian (jag menar att jag tackar ), I keep that on mind!!! I try to find those somewhere else firs, I think there is not so much of need for those!

I have one client who has -79 Cherokee Chief and the driveplate brakes after driving 600km, no matter if the plate is new or used! Now I think that the sleeve is missing from the crank!!! But that FSJ is not in use these days, so I think that I won´t need them soon!!
