  • slow wipers

    1976 j10 pickup my wipers work but have gotten very sloe moving. Is there a fix short of replacing the wiper motor.

    depends on why they are going slower. Old blades can wear down a motor, and over time the motor can get worn out and need to be rebuilt. Also, lower voltage to the motor will make it slower. Have you pulled out a volt meter and tested it while running with the wipers on?

      An old post, but none the less, this might help someone. I had slow wipers also...first speed would barely move the arms. Fast speed was a bit better. I replaced the motor thinking after 30+ yrs it was ready for the old folks home. No improvement at all. My mechanic (old school) then looked at the pivots (splined shafts that wiper arms attach to coming through the cowl). They were nearly seized due to lack of use of wipers (Jeep goes in winter storage every 6 months). Poured the penetrating fluid to the pivots and that fixed issues after 3yrs so far.
