  • rear D44 bearing kit

Hey y'all. Some of you have read about my axle fiasco. I lost LR axle shaft out on the highway. Rebuilding the wreckage to the axle now. I got an axle shaft from a IFSJA member and bearing kit from BJs. The replacement axle appears to have one seal. I put new bearings in this 88 GW when I regeared it in 2002. I don't remember putting an inner axle seal on it back then. The kit came with 2 seals, one smaller than the other. I have a 77 Jeep TSM and it shows an outer seal but not an inner seal.

Question - anyone out there know if the 88 D44 uses 2 seals or 1 seal on the outer axle shaft bearings?

    thanks

Yours will have just the outer seal. Some of the early rigs (my 79 does) use the inner seal. You really don't have to use the inner on any of them as the axle oil will lubricate this bearing as long as your oil in the axle is full -- Flint, I know you knew that last part but I was just stating it for people that may not...
